This notable project, completed several years ago, was developed in collaboration with the late and talented interior designer Vincent Jacquard for his client, actor and artist Jim Carrey. Known not only for his acting career but also for his passion for painting, Mr. Carrey commissioned a custom rug for his dining room inspired by one of his own abstract watercolor self-portraits.

Watercolor naturally creates ombré effects when one color overlaps another — a visual nuance that our artists and tufters are highly skilled in translating into textile form. Working closely with Mr. Jacquard, our team carefully selected 50 colors that would best replicate the painting through our medium: a silk-wool blend cut pile.

The complex artwork was prepared for both client approval and for our mill’s production process. Our expert tufters then brought the rug to life, meticulously blending each hue.

The ombré sections were achieved by twisting different colored yarns in varying ratios, creating smooth transitions across the design. From a distance, the rug’s vibrant abstraction reveals its figurative form — a visual journey that remained true to the original painting and delighted the client.
